BEER-O-NOMICS PT.6: BUILDING AN ECONOMY & GUAM’S MARKET

In last week’s Beer-O-Nomics, we talked about Retail and Business. Here’s the next section on Building an Economy and Guam’s Market. If you missed the previous sections, check it out. BUILDING AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS FOR ALL OF OUR FAMILIES Even though one could easily see how Beer-O-Nomics could be expanded to cover many more products, let’s look at our capacity to brew our own beer right here on Guam. Can it be done? Of course!!! In fact it already has been. All of us have driven by the San Miguel brewery by the Mall and have sampled beers from some of Guam’s Micro Brewers. Brewing beer is not Rocket science and it is well within our means to have multiple brewing facilities right here on Guam. Not only would it provide hundreds of good jobs for our people and keep millions of our dollars circulating in our economy but it would be good for our environment and save money in a lot of ways. Think about it, instead of $9 of the $10 I spent for my twelve pack going instantly off-island to build someone else’s economy and community, what if it stayed here to build Guam? ISN’T OUR MARKET TOO SMALL TO SUPPORT OUR OWN BREWERIES? Absolutely not!!! The great thing about brewing beer is that it is incredibly scalable. From the home brewer that cranks out a few cases a year to a massive plant that produces thousands an hour. This would open up tons of business opportunities across the board from the small village brewer, to medium sized “Micro-Breweries” to the large scale, big corporate brewing and bottling plants. So not only would it provide a large number of new jobs, that are currently being done by workers off island, but it would truly make a business friendly atmosphere where our local entrepreneurs can really compete with each other. Read the next section on Choice of Beer, Environment, and shipping.
